What am I doing these days? This now page has the answer.

Market Chemistry

I’m running Market Chemistry, where we help startup founders land investments by connecting them with their best-match investors. The fundraising landscape keeps shifting. Some VC firms are meeting founders but not writing checks, and learning to read those signals can save founders months of wasted effort.

I’ve been writing about the realities nobody tells you about fundraising, like how the initial enthusiasm from first calls often gives way to weeks of silence. That’s normal for most early-stage founders, but it doesn’t make it easier. I’ve also been watching the rise of VC-backed equity crowdfunding, which climbed from 7% to over 21% of raises between 2022 and 2025.

Lately I’ve been thinking about the downsides of being oversubscribed. More investors sounds great on paper, but it can mean extra dilution, a messy cap table, and an inbox full of call requests that slow you down. I’ve also been writing about how overselling your vision is the fastest way to kill a deal. Investors want founders who are honest about the hard stuff and have a plan to address it.

Advising and Strategy

I’m advising early-stage companies, including WICKED Protein, on marketing and fundraising strategy. A lot of my thinking lately centers on the difference between strategy and tactics and how many founders confuse the two. Strategic choices are foundational. Tactical decisions are about execution. Getting that distinction right changes everything.

Personal

My wife and I got married in 2024 and celebrated with a fire dancer and a live paella cook. We live in Austin with our dog, Echo. I’ve been spending a lot of time on the racquet sports courts, and I recently crossed “ride a hot air balloon” off my bucket list. Always looking for the next memorable experience.
